Credit Cards: Businesses Can Print Only Last Five (5) Numbers On Receipts

Civil Code Section 1747.09

The law requires that merchants print only the last 5 numbers of a credit or debit card account on the receipt they give to the customer. The law allows merchants to print all numbers on the receipts they keep. Starting January 1, 2009, the law will require merchants to print only the last 5 numbers on the receipts they keep too.

This law applies only to receipts that are printed electronically.
